Blizzard Teaser: Opens Up?
Posted by Acidrain, 57 days ago Jun 25, 2008 22:34

After two consecutive days of teasing fans with runes from Warcraft and then Diablo in its recent mysterious image, Blizzard has bewildered fans by throwing StarCraft, its third major franchise, into the mix. Today, the artwork on the company’s official website has been updated to show the ice melting away, and now include a new rune towards the bottom left of the image that strongly resembles a StarCraft Protoss symbol.

Fan site Blizz Planet was able to tie the new rune to the Akilae Tribe symbol. The Akilae Tribe is a division of the Protoss and its symbol represents the alien race’s Templar Caste. While the rune may not look exactly like the symbol, the positioning is similar and the number of spines are the same.

After the artwork was first linked with Warcraft, many Blizzard fans were expecting a Warcraft related announcement. However, when Blizzard teased Diablo the next day, fans were hoping for a Diablo 3 announcement. This would capitalize on the company’s May acquisition of the Diablo3.com domain name. With StarCraft tossed into the mix, all of Blizzard’s major franchises are up for grabs. What could this all mean? Hopefully we’ll find out more when Blizzard’s 2008 Worldwide Invitational happens this weekend in Paris.
